Choosing a Teacher

Before you choose a teacher in Reiki, and if you are considering training in Reiki Jin Kei Do, there are a number of points you should check out. Here is a list of questions you may find helpful in determining if a teacher is holding close to this tradition of Reiki Jin Kei Do? These are not necessarily given an answer here, the purpose is to stimulate your own questioning.

Can you define what RJKD is, and where does it come from?

A teacher should be fully conversant with the origins of the discipline, and be able to define the principles and terminology, such as that RJKD means; where did the term come from; who chose it?

Is it a clinical healing system or a spiritual path?

A teacher should know clearly where the parameters of the system are. What types of spiritual practices are within the tradition; how it can work as a healing system.

Does it differ from the other lineages of Reiki, and if so how?

If the teacher is claiming there are differences, are they saying it is "better" or "more powerful". Does it sound like sales talk? The lineage teachings make no claim for the teachings being "better" than any other, but there are differences. Remember, genuine teachers of the lineage are not "selling" or marketing this line of teachings, they simply practice it and teach it.

What is the teacher's Lineage?

The teacher should be able to trace their lineage back to Dr. Usui, and have in this line of teachers Dr. Ranga J. Premaratna, and Venerable Seiji Takamori.

Do you teach other styles of Reiki, if so what?

The Lineage Teachings hold very close to the teachings as handed down by Venerable Takamori, they do not include any New Age or channelled material. Where a teacher also teaches Reiki relating to other forms of New Age and channelled teachings then one has to question how authentic is the material they are teaching under the name RJKD. It is generally accepted that to teach this line of Reiki teachings one should be committed to the simplicity of the practice. This does not mean there is no room for other spiritual disciplines, but Reiki Jin Kei Do is one form of "Traditional Reiki", and as such the Teacher should be committed to it!

Footnote: Channelled and New Age Systems include: Seichem, Sechem, Tera-Mai, Karuna, Rainbow, Atlantean, Grecian, Angelic, etc.

What format does the training take?

Are the teachings being presented in additional to other Reiki Degrees or Reiki lineages? If so, be aware this is not part of the Lineage Tradition. There is no pre-set training period, although there are some generally accepted guidelines that have come from the Lineage Head. These include, course contents, minimum hours of training, minimum time spans between levels etc.

What is the class size?

The experience of several qualified RJKD teachers suggest that class sizes over 4-5 students per initiating master are impractical, if not impossible. Where class sizes exceed this number then again one has to question whether one is being given attunements in the Lineage of RJKD or some other. Attunements in RJKD are very personal and are given one-to-one, and they last around 30 minutes per attunement per student. This is a major difference in this line of teachings, and consequently, attunements are not given "conveyor belt style" as in some other lineages of Reiki. Where one teacher is initiating then class sizes of 2-4 are the norm.

What is the cost?

There is no pre-set cost for each degree of Reiki.

Some questions to ask if you are looking for a Buddho-EnerSense Teacher.

Can you say what Buddho-EnerSense is?

Is it better than Reiki? Is it the origin of the Reiki system?

Where does it come from?

Who practised it, and how did it arrive in the West?

Does it relate to Reiki?

Is it a type of Reiki? Why is it being taught with some connection to Reiki?

Who did you study with, and what is the lineage of teachings and your level training?

What kind of training did you do in this field?

What is the purpose of Buddho-EnerSense?

Is it a healing system, and if so what kind of a healing system is it? Is a spiritual tool? If so, what sort of tool.

What will it do for me or what will I be able to practise after training?

Will I understand healing or Reiki better? Will my energy be stronger? Will I practice healing better or be more powerful?

What will I be expected to do after the training?

Is there an on going practice or do I just do the training and it is complete?

Will I be able to teach Buddho-EnerSense material?

Can this material be taught with other disciplines?

How far will I be able to train in the system with you?

What level of training can I do from my current level of study?

What format does the training take?

Is it completed in a weekend or does it take longer?

What qualifications are required for taking the training?

Do I need to be a meditator, Buddhist, or a Reiki practitioner to take the training? If I have any disabilities can I take the training? Do I need to be fit and healthy?

What size are your classes?

What is the maximum number of people you teach?

What is the cost?

There are no pre-set fees for each stage of training, there can be wide variation in costs.

Are there any commitments or obligations I need to make?
